    1. Print and fill out the application [here].
    2. Drop off your completed application at the firehouse any Monday evening between 6:30 and 8:00 PM.

Membership Categories:

The Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department offers several membership options to fit your interests and abilities:

1. Active Interior

  • Interior firefighting personnel who respond to all emergency and non-emergency calls when available.
  • Must pass the Connecticut State Firefighter I practical exam. Candidates already FFI certified must submit proof of certification.
  • Must be 18 years of age and pass an annual physical examination.

2. Active Exterior

  • Non-interior firefighting support personnel who respond to all emergency and non-emergency calls when available.
  • Roles may include driver, pump operator, equipment setup, search and rescue, etc.
  • Firefighter I certification is not required.
  • Must be 18 years of age and pass an annual physical examination.

3. Support

  • For candidates not pursuing interior or exterior firefighting but wishing to assist with other duties during emergencies or departmental functions.

4. Fire Police

  • Perform limited duties as fire police.
  • Must complete the required Fire Police course within one year of membership. Candidates already certified must submit proof.
  • Will be sworn in for duty by the Town Clerk.
  • Must be 18 years of age and pass an annual physical examination.

5. Associate

  • For candidates employed in the Town of Norfolk who are in good standing with another fire department.
  • Proof of Firefighter I certification must be submitted.
  • Must be 18 years of age and pass an annual physical examination.

6. Fire Cadet

Must present proof of an annual physical examination.

For candidates ages 14–17, providing non-interior support services for emergency mitigation.

Encouraged to attend regular department meetings, drills, and practices for more intensive training.

Must adhere to the Fire Cadet Standard Operating Procedures (FCSOPs) and the NVFD Bylaws.

A parent/guardian signature and contact information are required with the application.

– Monthly Meetings are held the first Monday of every month at 7:00p

– Drills/Trainings are the 2nd, 3rd & 4th Mondays of every month at 6:30p
